The Eclectic One

…Because labels are a poor substitute for thinking

Hillary as SecState

Posted by Bill Nance on November 15, 2008

Ok, quick  comment, which I’ve not even seen yet on the blogosphere, which frankly amazes me. I cannot possibly be this much brighter than all the smart people out there blogging. Not trying to be falsely humble here, but I’m amazed no one is commenting on it yet.

Flashback to the Democratic National Convention…………..

  • Hillary has huge support and could offer a nasty and divisive floor fight
  • Michigan and Florida delegates are righteously PISSED OFF about not getting their votes counted
  • Lots of talk about deals and talks going on between the Obama and Clinton Teams, but no specifics ever emerge
  • Hillary comes out and makes one of the best speeches of her career calling for support of Obama
  • Election happens, Hillary makes virtually no appearances or campaigning stops until the final week of the election
  • Post Election, in an uncharacteristic occurrence, Hillary’s name is leaked as potential SecStatre Nominee

Put it all together folks. This is a straight-up quid pro quo. The only issue here is just how much Hillary can be ratcheted down on her pound of flesh. (Undersecretary appointments).

This isn’t a mystery, it didn’t come out of no where. This has been long planned. And probably, for Obama, another smart move. As Machiavelli said: Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer.

in 2016, Hillary will be 69. Not entirely too old to be a serious candidate for President. Joe Biden is out of the running due to age and health.

Hillary, with 4-7 years as SecState under hear belt, plus her Senate time, no one will even be able to raise a question about her experience.

Works for Hillary, for Obama, it gives him one of the smartest political operatives in the country as a temporary ally. and gets her out of the Senate causing him trouble.

Quid pro quo my friends. This deal was done in August. We just happen to be finding out the details now.

DAMN this man is smart.

Can’t disagree with the thinking. But I don’t have to support the choice. Richardson has far more experience.

I do think her input would be useful, but perhaps as HHS Secretary.

And indeed she will be in the nation’s political future.

Richardson for Sec Interior (western State liberal who ALSO understands cattle, grain and mining, or better yet: Attorney General…Who better to go after Cheney Et Al.

Personally, I won’t be really happy til I see Yoo and Cheney sitting in the Dock at the Hague…which will of course, never happen.
