The Eclectic One

…Because labels are a poor substitute for thinking

Sarah “Secessionist” Palin

Posted by Bill Nance on September 4, 2008

I’m still rather stunned by the deafening silence on Sarah Palin’s flirtations with the Alaska Independence Party, a party which advocates secession form the United States.

Rosa Brooks has also taken notice of this, though she doesn’t seem to think this is an outrage, she thinks it’s a joke.

Palin’s husband was a member of this political party for seven years, ending only in 2002. Palin herself is said to have been a member, though McCain campaign staff keep denying it.

I’ve written about this before and I have been given no believable information to refute the claims that Palin herself was actively involved with these people. We know for a fact that as governor she gave these people an official welcome and wished them well.

It’s interesting to note that in her speech last night, which contained no substance at all, but plenty of chest-thumping, “We’re REAL Americans” she made the claim of patriotism.

I have many questions I’d like the press to ask Palin, but here’s another one:

Governor, your husband was a member of the AIP, and you’ve attended at least one convention and officialy participated in another. This party’s founder, who’s quotes are proudly on display in that party, include statements like: “The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government.”

“Governor, if elected you will take an oath to which states: “I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

Governor, if you take that oath, will you be lying?”

  1. […] much as I’m in favor of anything showing Sarah “secessionist” Palin in a bad light, I would request that such attempts actually have some substance behind them. […]
