The Eclectic One

…Because labels are a poor substitute for thinking

New feature

Posted by Bill Nance on August 21, 2008

I’m inaugurating a new daily feature: Quote of the Day.

I can hardly count the times some event has occurred, or some thought has been expressed, that one of these quotes doesn’t spring to mind. My life is much richer for these tidbits of wisdom and humor. With each quote, I will do my best to provide a verifiable source. At times these can be difficult to come by, but usually if I can’t find it on the web, I can verify it in Bartlett’s or provide a specific reference.

Today’s quote is by one of my favorite authors: Robert A. Heinlein.

Be wary of strong drink. It can make you shoot at tax collectors…and miss.” -R.A. Heinlein, Time enough for Love.

I love that quote, though it’s not my favorite from TEfL. You need a QotD category 😉

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.” –R.A.Heinlein in TEfL
